How to Add and Review Social Media Links in Google Business Profile

A practical guide to connecting official social profiles without mistaking activity for enquiries, conversions, or sales.

Aug 16, 2026 • 10 min

A potential customer finds your business on Google and wants a quick sign that it is the real one before getting in touch. They look for Instagram to see recent work, Facebook to confirm the name, or YouTube to understand the service. If the link goes to an old account, a different business, or a broken page, uncertainty appears at exactly the wrong moment. Social links in a Google Business Profile can connect those public touchpoints when they lead to the official accounts and are kept accurate.

This feature is not a replacement for a website or responsive customer service. Its practical job is simpler: help someone reach the correct public account and see consistent information about the business.

What social links can do for a local business

A social profile can add context that a Business Profile cannot hold: recent work, a view of the team, videos, updates, or a familiar communication channel. A restaurant may use it to show its food and atmosphere; a photographer to show a portfolio; a repair shop to show the kind of work it handles. Treat these links as an identity and clarity check, not as a shortcut to a result you cannot verify.

Google allows one social link from each supported platform. You can add one Facebook link and one YouTube link, for instance, but not two YouTube links. The supported platforms are Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X, and YouTube. Availability is limited to selected regions and profiles. If you cannot see the Social profiles field, there is no separate setting that reliably turns it on.

How to add a social media link

Sign in with the Google Account that manages the business. Google can change labels or control placement across Search, Maps, devices, and versions, so check the current interface before making a live change. Google’s currentofficial instructions are:

  1. Open your Business Profile.
  2. Select Edit profile.
  3. Open Contact.
  4. Next to Social profiles, select Edit.
  5. Choose the platform, add the full URL, and save.

To add another network, choose Add social profile and repeat the process for a different platform.

Use the published URL format

Copy the public account address, not a login link, a single post, a URL shortener, or a campaign URL. Google publishes these formats; replace {username} with the real account identifier:

  • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/{username}
  • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/{username}
  • LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/{username} or https://www.linkedin.com/in/{username}
  • Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/{username}
  • TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/{username}
  • X: https://www.twitter.com/{username}
  • YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@{username}, https://www.youtube.com/channel/{username}, or https://www.youtube.com/user/{username}

Check that every link leads to the official account

Saving a link is not the last step. View the profile as a customer would—ideally in a private browser window or from another account—and open every link. The aim is not to manufacture a metric; it is to make sure the path is clear and trustworthy.

  • The URL opens without an error or a requirement to access a private account.
  • The name, logo, images, and bio match the current business.
  • The handle does not belong to a branch, former staff member, or similarly named business.
  • Phone number, website, city, hours, and contact method do not conflict with the Google listing.
  • The account is active—or is removed if it is no longer a channel you will maintain.
  • The link opens the profile, not a temporary post, unofficial group, or third-party page.

Repeat this check after a rebrand, domain, phone, location, administrator, or username change. Google compiles profile information from public web content, owners, users, and licensed sources, so review the whole listing. See how Business Profile information is sourced.

Edit, remove, and troubleshoot a link

Replace or delete an existing link

Go to Edit profile → Contact → Social profiles. To update it, replace the URL for that platform and save. To remove it, choose Delete next to the social profile and then save. Google may automatically show some social links when they meet certain requirements. If that happens, first check whether you can replace the link with the right one. Google says to contact support if you still need it removed and no removal option is available.

Rejected, duplicated, broken, or malformed URLs

Google says a link may fail if it is broken, duplicated, invalid, or points to an unsupported platform. Open it in a browser, copy the public profile URL again, and remove spaces. Check https://, the domain, and the format. Do not add two accounts from one network. If an account was deleted, renamed, or redirects elsewhere, update or remove it. If the format is correct but the failure continues, keep a screenshot and consult Google Help.

What you can measure—and what you cannot claim

Google does not currently provide performance metrics or click tracking for social media links in Business Profiles. That means the Business Profile itself cannot tell you how many visits, messages, or sales a particular social link created. You can review your own site or platform data carefully, but do not turn one signal into a confirmed business outcome.

  • Impression: the profile or content appeared; it does not show attention or action.
  • Click: someone opened a link; it does not prove they contacted or bought from you.
  • Follower: someone followed an account; that is not an enquiry or customer.
  • Message: there was an initial contact; it could be spam, a question, or an inactive conversation.
  • Enquiry: a real need expressed to the business; review the message and context before counting it.
  • Conversion: an action you define, such as a confirmed appointment, validated in your own process.
  • Sale and revenue: require confirmed payment, invoicing, or another business record.

Adding social links may make an official account easier to find, but it does not guarantee higher local rankings, more clicks, enquiries, conversions, sales, or revenue. Keep the stages separate in your records so the reported outcome matches what actually happened.

Keep Google, your website, and social profiles aligned

Use the same trading name, primary logo, and compatible description where practical. Keep phone number, website, public address or service area, hours, and contact routes current in all three places. If you work by appointment or travel to customers, explain that consistently.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Linking a personal account when an official business account exists.
  • Using a shortener, a post URL, or a link that needs the visitor to sign in.
  • Adding two links from the same platform or trying an unsupported network.
  • Leaving abandoned profiles with old details, expired prices, or a disconnected phone number.
  • Calling clicks, followers, or messages “sales” without confirming them in the business process.
  • Expecting the feature to appear for every country, category, or profile.

Final check before you save

  • I selected only platforms the business uses and can maintain.
  • I have one link per platform, and each follows Google’s published format.
  • I tested each URL while signed out and confirmed it opens the official account.
  • Name, logo, contact details, website, and location tell the same story everywhere.
  • I understand that Google provides no link-click or performance data here, and activity is not automatically a sale.
  • I will check Google’s latest instructions before a major update because availability and the interface can change.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I see Social profiles?

The feature is available only for selected regions and profiles. Confirm you are using the managing account and review Google’s current help page; the field is not available to every business.

Can I add two Instagram accounts?

No. Google allows one link per platform. Link the account that represents the business and manage any additional accounts from your wider web presence.

Can Google add a social link itself?

Yes. Some profiles can show automatically added links if they meet certain requirements. Review them, replace one when appropriate, and contact Google if it needs removing and you cannot do so yourself.

Will this improve my Google ranking?

There is no guarantee. The reasonable benefit is clarity for someone checking your public business presence.

Conclusion

Well-chosen social links are a piece of business information, not a results promise. Add only official accounts, use the correct format, and check that every channel agrees before leaving it public.
